Multiple Intelligence Integration

Mind your Institution using your Multiple Intelligences No matter what your profession is, it is often your main task to determine how to get a job done in the best and most efficient way. There are at least nine related strategies for using Multiple Intelligences theory to help you and your organization operate at peak performance. Multiple Intelligences is uniquely suited to be applied to the educational environment because its basic definition of intelligence perfectly mirrors what happens on the job. (Dr. Howard Gardner, 1993).

1) Know Yourself

Understanding one’s own Multiple Intelligence profile is a powerful foundation upon which to maximize achievement, success and lifelong development.

2) It’s All a Matter of Fit

‘To Thine Own Self Be True’ is the second principle following logically from Know Yourself. Using the knowledge of one’s strengths and limitations can lead naturally to tasks, jobs, positions, and careers that will maximize ones skill development and achievement.

3) Intelligent Professional Development

If the education system continues to change as rapidly as it has in recent years then it is essential that ALL of us are committed to being lifelong learners, whether we like it or not. One’s Multiple Intelligences profile enable one to set appropriate short and long term learning goals. All educators can strive to become leaders in their particular field and develop their skills, work efficiency, interpersonal skills and innovative/creative thinking.

4) Use Strengths to Manage Limitations
Individuals that know their Multiple Intelligences strengths can become more effective, meta cognitive (e.g., self aware, self-monitoring, self-correcting) educators and on-the-job learners. They do not let their limitations stand in the way of their success. They can think quickly on their feet to adapt and adjust to meet daily challenges as they know how to use their strengths to manage weaknesses.

5) Structure Highly Functioning Faculty
A highly effective and holistic faculty team can be assembled when the requirements of the task are well-defined and then matched to the Multiple Intelligences abilities and skills of appropriate team members. Multiple Intelligences awareness helps each educator to communicate, collaborate and focus on making the education/teaching the best it can be, using a combination of all of their intelligences, for, as the definition of the word holistic’ tells us: ’the sum of the parts is greater than the whole’.

6) Know Your Students/Parents
Do you not strive to understand the thinking, perspectives and feelings of your students and their parents so that you can better craft your teaching methodology to meet their needs /expectations?

7) Engage Your Common Sense!
Using the Logical-mathematical and Naturalist intelligences one can manage large amounts of complex data and perceive patterns as they unfold over time so that you can see to the essence of any situation. The solution (and your success!) will naturally emerge from your common-sense understanding.
